FITC (Flash in the Can) conquered Chicago on Friday. The event, which brings together the brilliant Flashers of both Chicago and the World, presented and educated us on topics such as Flash’s 3D capabilities, Flash 9, and deep linking, to name a few. I ran into many friends such as Ka Wai Cheung at Xoprecious who spoke about Flash Application Development and the ease of making changes (They make it look so easy). Richard Galvan from Adobe was there to show off Flash’s new features… I will hit these in a minute so don’t go anywhere. Hmmmm, who else… Of course GMUNK was there - while most speakers were fairly reserved, dressed well and kept it business casual, Bradly wore the usual (without the afro) had a few beers, and did a fantastic job. I don’t think anyone could focus away and even though he was at the end of a long day there was no yawning to be seen. Focus focus focus. He showed several items in his portfolio and then opened Maya and demonstrated how he does what he does. Using simple texture mapping techniques on simple geometry - BAM - beautiful graphics that can be used in video or Flash apps.

Oh yeah, Flash’s new features. There are quite a few of them and as I have to get running to get a bite to eat with a friend in a sec all I can say is that there are some great new items (AS3) and several others that Mr. Galvan showed off that didn’t get me tooooo excited (importing PSD files for instance - while cool I tend to recreate my designs anyway as I need to define what is vector/raster, and clean up the billions of photoshop layers).

Gotta go. More later! Flash on!
